After the departure of the founder, the genius of deconstruction and inventor of tabi, the chair of creative director was taken by the equally legendary couturier John Galliano. The 41-year-old Belgian Martens had only three jobs before Maison Margiela. The very first, immediately after graduating from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, was as a junior designer at Jean-Paul Gaultier. Jean-Paul Gaultier was amazed by the student's final work and immediately offered him a place in his House. The most interesting thing is that a similar story happened in the late 1970s with the young Belgian Martin Margiela! Gaultier also saw him and invited him to join him.

After working at a major couture house, Glenn moved to the creative director position at the underground Parisian luxury brand Y/Project. In 2020, he joined the Diesel team and remains its creative director.

Glenn Martens' creative style involves constant experimentation with the shape and construction of clothing. He certainly doesn't take the easy way out. The designer is known for often playing with unusual silhouettes, asymmetry and deconstruction of clothing, which is similar to Margiela's approach. In his work, he often combines elements of street fashion with high-end runway design, which allows him to create clothes that are relevant for both the runway and everyday life. This resonates with a younger generation of consumers with very different lifestyles.
